Breakout Stock Scanner for NSE
26 prebuilt scans · 4 buy-side and sell-side pairs · runs on live NSE candles
A breakout scan looks for price moving beyond a level that held before: a 52-week high, last week's high, the first candle's range or the previous day's high. Compression scans (inside bar, NR7, narrow range) are the other half: they find stocks coiling before a move in either direction.
Breakouts fail often, so the scans add a volume or trend filter where it helps and list fresh breaks rather than stocks already far above the level. The buy-side and sell-side twins cover breaks of highs and breaks of lows.
Breakout scans
Inside Bar Breakout (Buy Side)
Yesterday was an inside bar, trading entirely within the day before it, and today's close is above the inside bar's high. The breakout candle the compression was waiting for. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
Inside Bar Breakdown (Sell Side)
Yesterday was an inside bar, trading entirely within the day before it, and today's close is below the inside bar's low. The breakdown candle the compression was waiting for. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
Approaching 20-Day High (Within 2%, Uptrend)
Closing within 2% of the 20-day high without having broken it, inside an uptrend (20 EMA above 50 EMA, price above the 20 EMA). A stock coiling under resistance. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
Approaching 20-Day Low (Within 2%, Downtrend)
Closing within 2% of the 20-day low without having broken it, inside a downtrend (20 EMA below 50 EMA, price below the 20 EMA). A stock sitting on support. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
5-Day High Breakout (Weekly High Break)
Close above the highs of each of the previous 5 candles, about one trading week on the daily chart, on 1.2x volume. A short-term range breakout. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
5-Day Low Breakdown (Weekly Low Break)
Close below the lows of each of the previous 5 candles, about one trading week on the daily chart, on 1.2x volume. A short-term range breakdown. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
Wide-Range Up Bar (Range 2x ATR, Close Near High)
A green candle whose high-low range is at least 2x the average true range and which closes in the top 20% of that range. A decisive buying day. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
Wide-Range Down Bar (Range 2x ATR, Close Near Low)
A red candle whose high-low range is at least 2x the average true range and which closes in the bottom 20% of that range. A decisive selling day. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).

Pivot R1 Breakout

NR7 Narrow Range

20-Day High Breakout
Stocks trading at their one-month high with a strong green close and heavy volume — the classic range-expansion trigger.
15-Minute Inside Bar
The latest 15-minute candle trades entirely inside the high-low range of the candle before it, and that earlier candle had a range of at least 0.4%. Compression ahead of a breakout in either direction.
Previous Week High Breakout
Close breaks above last week's high after the previous session closed at or below it, on at least average volume. A fresh weekly-level breakout, not a stock already extended above it.
How traders use these scans
- Check the close, not only the intraday break. A close beyond the level is the stronger version.
- Look at what sits just above the breakout. A break into a major resistance can stall.
- Use the broken level as your stop reference: a close back inside the range undoes the breakout.
Scans list setups that match fixed rules. They are not recommendations and none is back-tested for an edge.
Frequently asked questions
What is a fresh breakout?
The previous candle was still at or inside the level and the latest one is beyond it. Stocks that have been above the level for days are not listed.
Are compression scans bullish or bearish?
Neither. Inside bar, NR7 and narrow-range scans show a pause, and the direction is decided by which side price breaks.
Is there an opening range breakout scan?
Yes, a buy-side and a sell-side version on 15-minute candles. For range options and a back-test, use the Intraday ORB Breakout page.
