What this tool helps you investigate
Use GIFT Nifty to inspect offshore futures price behaviour and overnight context alongside the source timestamps. It is a related futures market rather than a direct quote for the domestic Nifty opening.
The tool comparison reference uses the last available quote at or before the stated prior-session cutoff. Read the exact reference timestamp before interpreting a gap.
Read the workspace
- Selected bar values. The header shows the observed bar time, OHLC and volume.
- Price chart. Sparse sampled intervals can look like isolated ticks; they need not represent complete tick history.
- Interval volume. Volume uses changes in the source contracts counter as explained below the chart.
- History table. Use the tabular timestamps and prices to confirm what the chart shows.
How to use GIFT Nifty
- Check the source timestamp and selected chart interval.
- Read the prior-session reference time used by the gap comparison.
- Inspect overnight and domestic-session price structure on the chart.
- Verify relevant bars in the interval table and compare with domestic market context after the open.
Understand the measurements
| Measurement | How to read it |
|---|---|
| OHLC | Sampled open, high, low and close within the selected chart interval. |
| Reference gap | Difference from the reference quote and timestamp stated in the workspace. |
| Interval volume | Change in the source contracts counter, subject to source coverage. |
| Source change | The source-provided comparison, which can differ from a custom chart reference. |
A worked example
A futures quote 100 points above a prior reference indicates an observed positive comparison. Domestic opening prices can still differ because of new information, basis, timing and auction conditions. Describe the comparison as a cue rather than an exact opening forecast.
This example explains the calculation or reading process. It is not a current market observation or a trade recommendation.
Checks before drawing a conclusion
- Confirm the exact source and reference timestamps before stating an overnight gap.
- Offshore futures and domestic cash prices are related but not identical instruments.
- Sparse samples do not provide complete exchange tick-by-tick history.
