Stochastic Oversold (%K and %D Below 20)
Both the Stochastic %K and %D lines are below 20, so the stock is closing near the bottom of its recent range. A mean-reversion watch-list, not a buy signal. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
About This Scan
The Stochastic oscillator shows where the close sits inside the recent high-low range. A reading below 20 means the stock is closing near the bottom of that range. This scan requires both the %K line and the slower %D line to be below 20, which removes one-day dips, on Rs 5 Cr of last-session turnover. In a strong downtrend the oscillator can stay low for weeks, so treat the list as a mean-reversion watch-list. The mirror scan is Stochastic Overbought. For an oscillator turn, see Stoch Bullish Turn.

How To Use This Scan
- •Wait for the turn. A %K line crossing back above %D, or a green close above the prior candle's high, is the usual sign that selling is easing.
- •Check the trend. An oversold reading above a rising 200 DMA has a better chance of a bounce than one in a falling stock.
- •Keep the stop below the recent low. This scan has not been back-tested for an edge.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Stochastic below 20 mean?
The latest close is in the lowest fifth of the recent price range, so sellers have had control. It is called oversold, but price can keep falling.
Why require both %K and %D?
%D is a smoothed version of %K. When both are below 20 the weakness has lasted more than a candle or two.
Does it work on intraday charts?
Yes. Switch the interval to 15m or 1h in the screener. The default is the daily chart.
