Stochastic Overbought (%K and %D Above 80)
Both the Stochastic %K and %D lines are above 80, so the stock is closing near the top of its recent range. Strong stocks can stay here for weeks, so it is a watch-list for exhaustion, not a sell signal. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
About This Scan
The Stochastic oscillator shows where the close sits inside the recent high-low range. A reading above 80 means the stock is closing near the top of that range. This scan requires both the %K line and the slower %D line to be above 80, which removes one-day spikes, on Rs 5 Cr of last-session turnover. In a strong uptrend the oscillator can stay high for weeks, so treat the list as a watch-list for exhaustion, not a sell signal. On a strong market day this list can be long. The mirror scan is Stochastic Oversold. For an oscillator turn, see Stoch Bearish Turn.

How To Use This Scan
- •Wait for the turn. A %K line crossing back below %D, or a red close below the prior candle's low, is the usual sign that buying is easing.
- •Check the trend. In a rising market, overbought stocks are often leaders, and shorting them early is costly.
- •Holders can use the list to review stops. This scan has not been back-tested for an edge.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Stochastic above 80 mean?
The latest close is in the highest fifth of the recent price range, so buyers have had control. It is called overbought, but price can keep rising.
Why require both %K and %D?
%D is a smoothed version of %K. When both are above 80 the strength has lasted more than a candle or two.
Is overbought a sell signal?
No. It describes where price sits in its range. Many strong trends stay overbought for a long time, so wait for a turn or a break of support.
