How often does the dashboard refresh?

Continuously during NSE market hours, with each panel carrying its own last-update timestamp; outside hours it presents the most recent session's closing state.

What is Open Interest (OI) and why is it important?

Open Interest (OI) represents the total number of outstanding options contracts that have not yet been closed or exercised. It's a crucial metric that indicates the liquidity and activity level in options contracts.

  • High OI: Indicates strong interest and liquidity in that strike price
  • Increasing OI: New positions are being created (fresh buying/selling)
  • Decreasing OI: Positions are being closed or exercised
  • OI vs Volume: Volume shows daily activity, OI shows total outstanding positions

How to interpret Put-Call Ratio (PCR)?

Put-Call Ratio (PCR) is calculated as Total Put OI / Total Call OI for the selected scope. It measures positioning concentration. Buying, writing, hedging and spreads can all affect it; thresholds alone do not establish direction or predict reversals.

PCR > 1.5 (Higher put OI)

Put OI is relatively high. This can reflect hedging, buying or writing; price confirmation is needed.

PCR 0.7 - 1.5 (Middle range)

This range does not establish balanced sentiment or imply trend continuation.

PCR < 0.7 (Higher call OI)

Call OI is relatively high. It does not establish optimism or predict a bearish reversal.

Understanding Options Chain Analysis

Options chain analysis involves studying the distribution of open interest and volume across different strike prices to identify support, resistance, and market expectations.

Key Support/Resistance Levels:

  • High call OI: possible resistance if writing and price rejection agree
  • High put OI: possible support if writing and a price hold agree
  • Max Pain = settlement level minimizing aggregate option intrinsic payout
  • OI spikes show activity, not participant identity

Pattern Labels:

  • Long Buildup: OI↑, option premium↑
  • Short Buildup: OI↑, option premium↓
  • Long Unwinding: OI↓, option premium↓

  • Each open option contract has a buyer and seller. OI and premium changes cannot identify trade intent or distinguish hedges and spreads. Directional readings assume the underlying move drives the premium, with IV and time decay not dominating it: call premium gains may align with bullish price action and put premium gains with bearish price action; falling premiums suggest the reverse. Compare the same expiry and observation period.
