50 EMA Rally Rejection (Downtrend)
In a downtrend (20 EMA below 50 EMA below 200 EMA) the candle rallies to within 0.5% of the 50 EMA and closes red below it. A bounce that failed at the medium-term average. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
About This Scan
In a downtrend, rallies often fail near the 50-day EMA. This scan requires the trend first: the 20 EMA is below the 50 EMA, which is below the 200 EMA. It then looks for a candle whose high came within 0.5% of the 50 EMA and which closed red below it, on Rs 5 Cr of last-session turnover. That is a bounce that reached the medium-term average and failed. The mirror scan is 50 EMA Pullback Bounce (Uptrend).

How To Use This Scan
- •Look at how price got here. A weak, low-volume bounce into the average is more convincing than a strong one that just ran out of room.
- •The 50 EMA or the candle's high is the usual stop reference. A close above the average cancels the idea.
- •Wait for the next candle to trade below the rejection candle's low if you want more confirmation. This scan has not been back-tested for an edge.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 50 EMA rejection?
A rally in a downtrend that reaches the 50-day exponential moving average and fails to close above it, which many traders watch as medium-term resistance.
Why require the 20, 50 and 200 EMA in order?
It keeps the scan to stocks in an established downtrend. Without it the list includes stocks that are simply rising through the average.
How close must the high be to the 50 EMA?
Within 0.5% below it, or above it. The close must still be below the average on a red candle.
