About This Scan

A bullish harami is a two-candle pattern. A large red candle comes first, then a smaller green candle whose body sits entirely inside the first candle's body. It shows that selling slowed after a strong down move. This scan requires the red candle to have a body of at least 1.5% and to close below its 20 EMA. The green candle must open above the red candle's close and close below its open. Turnover must be at least Rs 5 Cr.

Sell-side twin
Bearish Harami
A red candle that sits entirely inside the body of a large green candle (1.5%+ body) in an uptrend above the 20 EMA. Buying pressure is stalling after a strong up day.

How To Use This Scan

  • •A harami is a pause, not a reversal. Wait for the next candle to close above the green candle's high before treating it as a turn.
  • •Look at the location. A harami at a known support, a prior low or a rising average is more meaningful than one in the middle of a range.
  • •Place the stop below the red candle's low. Its mirror is the Bearish Harami scan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a bullish harami?

A small green candle fully inside the body of the previous large red candle. It suggests selling pressure is fading after a strong down day.

Does the second candle have to be green?

Some definitions allow either colour. This scan requires green, which is the stronger version of the pattern.

Is a bullish harami reliable?

It is a weak signal by itself. Traders confirm it with the next candle, volume and a support level.
