Dragonfly Doji
A candle that opens and closes near its high (body 0.3% or less, upper wick 0.2% or less) with a lower wick of at least 1%. Sellers pushed price down and buyers took it back. Location matters.
About This Scan
A dragonfly doji opens and closes at or near the day's high and trades far lower in between, leaving a long lower wick. It shows sellers pushed price down and buyers took all of it back. This scan requires a body of 0.3% or less, an upper wick of 0.2% or less and a lower wick of at least 1%, measured against the close, on Rs 5 Cr of last-session turnover. It does not filter for trend, so check the location: the pattern means more after a decline or near a support level. The mirror scan is Gravestone Doji.

How To Use This Scan
- •Wait for confirmation. A close above the dragonfly's high on the next candle is the usual sign that buyers are in control.
- •Look at the location. Near a prior low, a rising average or a gap fill the pattern is meaningful, and in the middle of a range it is just a candle.
- •Place the stop below the candle's low. This scan has not been back-tested for an edge.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a dragonfly doji?
A candle with almost no body and no upper wick but a long lower wick, so open, high and close sit at about the same price.
How is it different from a hammer?
A hammer has a small body that can sit a little below the high. A dragonfly doji has an almost zero body at the high. Use the Hammer Reversal scan for the wider shape.
Does it work on intraday charts?
Yes. Switch the interval to 15m or 1h in the screener. The default is the daily chart.
