About This Scan

A bearish harami is a two-candle pattern. A large green candle comes first, then a smaller red candle whose body sits entirely inside the first candle's body. It shows that buying slowed after a strong up move. This scan requires the green candle to have a body of at least 1.5% and to close above its 20 EMA. The red candle must open below the green candle's close and close above its open. Turnover must be at least Rs 5 Cr.

Buy-side twin
Bullish Harami
A green candle that sits entirely inside the body of a large red candle (1.5%+ body) in a downtrend below the 20 EMA. Selling pressure is stalling after a strong down day.

How To Use This Scan

  • •A harami is a pause, not a reversal. Wait for the next candle to close below the red candle's low before treating it as a turn.
  • •Look at the location. A harami at a known resistance, a prior high or a falling average is more meaningful than one in the middle of a range.
  • •Place the stop above the green candle's high. Its mirror is the Bullish Harami scan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a bearish harami?

A small red candle fully inside the body of the previous large green candle. It suggests buying pressure is fading after a strong up day.

Does the second candle have to be red?

Some definitions allow either colour. This scan requires red, which is the stronger version of the pattern.

Is a bearish harami reliable?

It is a weak signal by itself. Traders confirm it with the next candle, volume and a resistance level.
