Intraday Volume Surge: Green Candle (3x Normal)
The latest candle trades at 3x or more of the stock's typical volume for that time of day and closes green. A burst of buying interest. Liquid stocks only (Rs 5 Cr+).
About This Scan
Volume is not the same all day, so a candle is compared with the volume the stock normally trades at that same time. This scan lists NSE stocks whose latest completed candle traded at least three times the average volume of the same time slot over the last 20 sessions and closed green, on Rs 5 Cr of last-session turnover. It catches buying bursts as they happen. Volume has no direction on its own, which is why the candle colour is part of the rule. The mirror scan is Intraday Volume Surge: Red Candle.
Scan Rules
Stock passes all of the below filters in the ALL segment using 5M candles:
- 1.Volume vs Same-Time Average (x) greater than or equal to 3
- 2.Close greater than Open
- 3.Traded Value (Rs lakh) greater than or equal to 500
How To Use This Scan
- •Open the chart and look at where the burst happened: a break of the opening range or a key level matters more than a spike in the middle of a range.
- •Check the news. Block deals, results and index changes all cause volume bursts that fade quickly.
- •A burst on one candle is a clue. See whether the next candles hold the gains. This scan has not been back-tested for an edge.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is normal volume defined?
As the average volume of the same candle time over the previous 20 sessions, so a 10:05 candle is compared with other 10:05 candles.
How is it different from the First Candle Volume Break scans?
Those compare a candle with the first candle of the session. This scan compares it with the usual volume for that time, on any candle.
Does the list change during the day?
Yes. It follows the latest candle, so a stock drops off when the next candle is back to normal volume.
