How to read the index heatmap
Start with all indices to compare sector leadership and broad-market performance. Choose an individual index to inspect its constituents. Positive and negative values accompany the tile colours, while the table provides precise comparisons.
Use the session date and replay timeline to compare snapshots from the same trading day. Check the size metric shown on each chart before interpreting a large tile as a large contribution. Price change and breadth describe participation, not confirmed order flow.
Index heatmap for NIFTY, BANKNIFTY and sector indices
The Index Heatmap compares the price performance of index constituents across the selected period. Sector clusters and individual cells help show whether an index move is broadly shared or concentrated in a few names.
Check whether size represents index weight, market value or another measure before reading contribution from the layout. Compare the same timeframe across stocks and the index. Colour shows price change, not order flow; a narrow advance can persist and does not by itself justify a reversal trade.
What is an index heatmap used for?
Instantly decomposing an index move into its constituents: which stocks are contributing, which are dragging, and whether gains or losses are broad or concentrated. Reading the map takes seconds and answers the internals question that the index number alone always hides.
How do I read sector clusters in the heatmap?
Contiguous same-color blocks indicate sector-level moves — genuine rotation. A sector entirely green inside a red market is defensive rotation; one lone green stock inside a red sector is stock-specific news. Cluster shape tells you whether to trade the sector, the index, or the single name.
