MACD Crosses Below Zero Line
The MACD line closes below zero after being at or above it on the previous candle, with price below the 20 EMA. The short-term average has moved below the longer-term one.
About This Scan
The MACD line is the fast EMA minus the slow EMA. When it crosses below zero, the fast average has moved below the slow one, which many traders read as momentum turning negative. This scan lists NSE stocks whose MACD line closed below zero on the latest candle after being at or above zero on the previous one, with price below the 20 EMA and Rs 5 Cr of last-session turnover. It is different from the MACD Bearish Cross scan, which tracks the MACD line crossing its signal line. The mirror scan is MACD Crosses Above Zero Line.

How To Use This Scan
- •Zero-line crosses lag price. They confirm a move that has already started, so use them with a level or a breakdown, not alone.
- •Look for volume or a close below a recent low on the cross day. A cross in a sideways market often reverses.
- •Combine it with the MACD Bearish Cross scan: a signal-line cross above zero followed by a zero-line cross shows momentum fading.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the MACD crossing below zero mean?
The fast EMA is now below the slow EMA, so the average price has been falling over the recent period. Traders read it as bearish momentum.
How is this different from a MACD signal-line crossover?
The signal-line crossover compares the MACD line with its own average. The zero-line cross compares the two EMAs behind it. Zero-line crosses are rarer and slower.
Can I use it on intraday charts?
Yes. Switch the interval to 15m or 1h in the screener. The default is the daily chart.
