Futures price and open interest heatmap

The Futures Heatmap compares price changes and OI changes across displayed contracts. Its classifications make it possible to review rising-price, falling-price, expanding-OI and contracting-OI combinations together.

Use the same timeframe and separate contracts by expiry when assessing clusters. OI growth adds both a long and a short side to outstanding positions. Price-and-OI labels are interpretations of aggregate changes, not confirmed transaction intent, and rollover can alter the map without a matching change in market conviction.

What is a futures heatmap used for?

A futures heatmap compresses the entire derivatives universe into one color-coded picture, letting you see in seconds which indices, stocks or commodities are moving, in which direction, and — on this two-axis version — whether open interest confirms the move. It replaces scanning dozens of individual charts during the opening minutes.

How is this heatmap different from a price heatmap?

A price heatmap colors tiles by price change only. This heatmap also factors open-interest change, so each tile's color distinguishes moves backed by new positioning from moves driven purely by position closing. The same rally looks completely different depending on whether OI rose or fell behind it.

Can I view the futures heatmap for a historical date?

Yes. Historical mode renders the same two-axis heatmap for any past trading day, which is useful for reviewing how positioning distributed across an event, policy decision or expiry session after the fact.
